Akoma FM’s Me Mpotemu ‘Keteke’ stopover at Suame Magazine attracted hundreds of artisans, spare parts dealers, businesses and inhabitants within the enclave to discuss issues of local and national interests.
Me Mpotemu (Community issues), an offshoot of Akoma FM’s flagship show GhanAkoma, has been designed to draw radio closer to the people to discuss and find solutions to issues affecting their daily lives and businesses.
The outdoor event, which has been set on wheels (Me Mpotemu Keteke), is an outside broadcast (OB) version of Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma. On Friday, August 26, it pitched camp at the biggest garage and industrial hub in West Africa – Suame Magazine.
Me Mpotemu Keteke stopover at Suame Magazine, specifically at the forecourt of Suame Post Office, was a crowd puller as it saw hundreds of artisans, residents, businesses and passers-by trooping to the forum to share their ideas on national issues, especially issues within communities (Mpotemu)
Identifiable groups such as Akoma FM Fan Club members as well as representatives from the Suame Magazine Industrial Development Organization (SMIDO) and other opinion leaders within the industrial enclave represented at the forum.
A major issue that was topical and took center stage at the forum was the fast deterioration of the Cedi, a situation that most of the spare parts dealers complained had been taking a toll on their businesses.
Another issue that popped up was poor road networks within the industrial enclave, especially access routes that connect adjoining communities.
Gracing the public forum were Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area Maxwell Fosu Boakye, former Communication Director for NPP in the Ashanti Region Kwasi Kyei and Deputy Communication Director for opposition NDC in the Region Kwaku Asafo Agyei
Akoma FM’s Me Mpotemu Keteke afforded patrons – who trooped to the forum in their numbers – a platform to share their ideas.
They took turns to ask questions baffling them and also had the chance to meet their duty bearers (MCE, Assembly members) to discuss their personal issues for prompt reactions and interventions.
Suame’s MCE Maxwell Fosu Boakye delivering his keynote address at the forum described Me Mpotemu Keteke as “a novel initiative that all other media houses must follow as a strategy to take the radio to the people’s doorstep and discuss their challenges and problems for possible solutions”.
He further encouraged the organizers to ensure the ‘Keteke’ stops at all vantage points and communities within Kumasi and beyond to help throw more lights on their problems.
Akoma FM’s Me Mpotemu Keteke is set to make another major stop at Race course – one of Kumasi’s biggest open air markets. The plan is to gather the traders and give them listening ears to their pertinent issues.
