Akoma 87.9 FM, the fastest growing FM station in the Ashanti Region, has over the past four years found its way into the hearts of radio listeners across the region with quality events and programmes.

Just within four years, the fastest growing radio station has become a force to reckon with when it comes to the radio market in the Ashanti region.

The radio station’s compelling news and current affairs programming leads in breaking stories and community engagements.

Critical issues of interest are carried on ‘Akoma Kase3bo’ with stories beautifully delivered by Andrews Akoboah (The Legend), Ama Serwaa and Abena Adepa.

Duty bearers are further engaged on ‘Ghanakoma’, the development-focused morning show which has over the past four years attracted discerning listeners and astute guests to engage host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

During the last segment of the celebrations, when the cake was cut to officially mark the 4th anniversary, Manager of the Station Faustina Derry pointed out that the station prioritizes the development needs of its listener and therefore focuses attention on issues that ensure the socio-economic well being of the individual and the community.

She assured the listeners of the station’s commitment to introduce more events to serve them better.

According to her, “I’m still yet to come to terms with the fact that we are just four years old in the market but our achievements are remarkable than others who took over more than five years ago”.

Just within four years of operation, the fastest growing station has become a force to reckon with when it comes to the radio market in the region.

Skeptical as many were, it was almost impossible for a new station to penetrate the Ashanti Region market.

However, with hard work and dedication, the station has climbed the audience share market and it’s now the fastest-growing radio station in Ashanti Region.

In just four years since Akoma FM, a subsidiary of Media General, was opened, it has become a force to reckon with with compelling news analysis, content, community-driven content and approach.

From the radio station’s flagship show GhanAkoma (morning) to the midday news and other shows or programmes, the day’s shows were all broadcast from outside the studios with a live band as a side attraction to keep listeners in good mood.

Some of the usual panel members like Alhaji Sani Snr, founding member of National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Kwasi Kyei, a former Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon Ofori Agyemang (King Zuba), former MCE for Obuasi Municipality and a member of Ashanti Region NDC Communication Team were all part of the event.

Akoma FM‘s Akoma Mu Nsem afternoon talk show hosted by Maa Akos and her team has served as a platform to solve a number of social and relationship challenges.

Sports with Pepe Suarez, Abusuapanin Sammy Acheampong, Raphael Sarkodie, Stevoo, Danso and others got pundits and sports lovers tuned in.

Akoma Mere Show with Tony Best has been the toast of mid-morning entertainment, driving commuters to work and easing the stress of a hard day’s work.

The Personality Chat segment has almost all the great entertainment personalities passing through.

Other events or programmes include GhanAkoma evening political show hosted by JB and Odo Ntentan talk show hosted by Yaa Nicky on every Friday and Saturday evenings.

Nights and weekends are never dull on Akoma FM as in-house DJ Obonke serves the best of music to entertain.

Nana Akohene Mensah and Nana Billa Kantanka are delight to listen with the best of reggae, Hi-Life and true oldies.

In the past four years, Akoma FM has changed the radio landscape in the Ashanti Region.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the station partnered listeners to collect over 120 pints of blood for the KATH Blood Bank.

“The coming years would be more exciting for our listeners and audience,” said Madam Dery.

“We indeed have the listener at heart in planning and formatting our programmes; so as we grow, we want to grow with them to impact positively on on society,” she stated.
