Highlife legend, Kwame Boa-Amponsem, known popularly as ‘Agya Koo Nimo’, has interceded for the current leadership of Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), urging Ghanaians, especially those in the music industry, to forgive their wrongdoing. The former MUSIGA President observed that the union is riddled with corruption and greediness. “I am sad because morality and corruption are deeps in MUSIGA,” the celebrated King of Palm Wine music asserted. The music professor made the appeal in an interview with Paa Kofi Abronomah on Onua TV at his residence in Kumasi in the Ashanti region. He was commenting on the recent impasses in MUSIGA that have forced the postponement of the election of its officers on three occasions. He said “if truth becomes the first victim of the group, it is a problem but let us forgive those who have offended the union”. The Music Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said “doing what is right and moral is very key in every institution like MUSIGA”. “Leadership has failed in a way”, Professor of Ethnomusicology explained. Aged musicians The musicologist said it should be the prime motive of MUSIGA to support the aged musicians in the country because most of them are suffering in their old age. Recounting what transpired during his tenure as the MUSIGA President, the 85-year-old musician said “I sold my guitar worth GHS15,000 help aged musicians but I was removed like the palace coup in 1975”. “MUSIGA executives must not be greedy but must be truthful”, he admonished.
