The month-long campaign dubbed ‘Father Supreme’ was climaxed at the Madina Zongo Junction, targeting fathers who are hawking on the streets of Madina.
Nii, a father of 4, is a truck pusher. He has been pushing trucks for the past 20 years and he was happy to have chanced upon the 3FM team at the Madina-Zongo Junction.
“Every morning I will go to my madam’s house to cart her wares to the shop and I get paid every day. I do this twice in a day; in the morning and evening,” he said in vernacular.
“She is not the only client I have, anyone who calls me to cart their goods for them I am willing to. But today I am happy because luck just smiled on me.”
According to Nii, this is the first time he had received such a magnificent gift in his lifetime.
Nii is not the only man as many more male hawkers also basked in the glory by receiving huge hampers.
Backed by sponsors, 3FM’s morning show crew also organised prostrate screening session for a lot of men hawking at Madina Zongo Junction.
The event was also graced by taxi and trotro drivers as well as vendors, most of whom complained of not having sheds to sell their wares.
Another hawker, Kwaakye, said “life is difficult for fathers like me. I have to sell in traffic to make a living and if one day I don’t come to work it means my family will go hungry; even when I am not well I still come to the street”.
Speaking on the rationale behind the celebration, Jackie Belba-Smith Angmor, a member of the organizing committee, said: “For June, 3FM decided to celebrate men for their sacrifices. Today, we are providing free health screening for men and supported by Medimoses Herbal Centre.
“It’s been an amazing time. And so Frytol Sunflower Oil, Nivea Men, Verna Mineral water and to everyone that supported us we say thank you so much,” she stressed.
