Former President John Rawlings’ apology to his successors, John Kufuor and John Mahama, is deficient in nature, a lecturer at the University of Education in Winneba has said. Mr. Rawlings last Tuesday made derogatory remarks against the two other former presidents when hen addressed chiefs and people of Mepe from the North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region. He said of Mr. Kufuor and Mahama: “I know with my integrity when I die, I will go to heaven but when I see these corrupt leaders, I will ask permission from God and flog them. “If they don’t leave heaven for me, I will go and leave the heavens and join Satan in hell because I cannot stay in the same place with them,” Mr Rawlings added. But following criticisms from the public, Mr. Rawlings on Monday bowed to pressure and apologized for describing the two former presidents being corrupt. A statement from his office said he “has taken due note of concerns raised over certain publications arising out of a meeting he held with a delegation of chiefs and elders from Mepe in the Volta Region last Tuesday. “The former President apologises to former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama for the choice of words. He deems the words as inappropriate and withdraws them,” the statement added. Commenting on the apology on 3FM Monday, Dr. Ahmed Jinapor, said “The statement does not say he is apologizing for the intent that he holds relative to [former] president Mahama being rogue and [former] president Kufour, evil. He says he is apologizing if the words that he chose were not right,” In his estimation, Mr. Rawlings appears to be habouring some sort of bitterness in him. “I think when you look at [former] president Rawlings and you listen to his statement, it looks like he has some bitterness in him. I find it worrying in the sense that almost everybody that has occupied the office, Rawlings has a problem with”. Dr. Jinapor added: “As it stands, he doesn’t see anything wrong with Nana Addo but let’s wait and see when Nana Addo exits office. I can prophesy that Rawlings will go after him. By 3news.com|Ghana]]>
