Yendi under curfew following the naming of Yaa-Naa's successor

The selection of the new Dagbon overlord is in consonance with the roadmap of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s Committee of Eminent Chiefs which was expected to bring lasting peace to the area. The curfew, as announced in a statement dated Friday, January 18, is to forestall any violence as well as ensure the maintenance of law and order in Yendi and its environs. “The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument imposed a 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. curfew on Yendi Township and its environs, effective, Friday, 18. January, 2018”, a statement signed by the minister. The statement also warns against people carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, while urging the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them.
