A helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces is reported to have crashed at Bonsukrom, a community in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

Assembly Member of the area, Thomas Dadzie who confirmed the news to Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show team indicated that the accident occurred when the plane was obstructed by thunderstorm while in motion.

He adds that three persons who were onboard the aircraft have since been rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment, whilst search is underway to ensure those trapped are rescued.

“I was preparing to work when I had a call that an aircraft had crashed and it’s on fire. I tried to make calls and some persons came to the scene. An eyewitness tells me there was a thunderstorm whilst the aircraft was still in motion, the pilot was trying to swerve the thunderstorm and that led to the accident.

The fallen aircraft

We have so far been able to rescue three persons who were onboard to a nearby private medical centre. We are still searching the scene to ascertain if there are others trapped in the aircraft. We are only praying there will be no explosions,” he indicated.

According to him, military officers who reported to the scene, seized his phones and prevented him from taking pictures. He also adds that security has since been tight at the scene.

“Some officers are currently at the scene, which makes me believe the aircraft belongs to the Ghana Armed Forces. They have seized my phone and prevented anyone from taking pictures. They have also asked everyone, including myself to leave the scene. We are only praying those trapped are rescued on time before the aircraft catches fire,” he added.
