UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has shown his depth of knowledge in Ghana’s norms and traditions, quoting a popular Akan proverb in his speech at the UK-Africa Investment Summit on Monday, January 20. In making a point about the uniqueness of each development partner, the former London Mayor said the British system is becoming “fairer” and “more equal”. He was juxtaposing his country with the likes of China, Russia, France and Germany. The former UK Foreign Secretary makes his point more convincing by saying: “But in the words of an old Akan proverb that I picked up in Ghana, ‘All fingers are not the same’. “There is wisdom in these Akan proverbs. All fingers are not the same and all countries are not the same.” The UK-Africa Investment Summit brings together businesses, governments and international institutions to showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa. In attendance was President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was in the audience to hear the Akan proverb. UK PM Johnson’s quotation received a thunderous applause from the audience.
