The Electoral Commission (EC) has said it is fully prepared for the conduct of this year’s general elections.

The Commission says it will ensure that the successes called in the 2020 elections are repeated in the 2024 polls.

“we are fully ready, fully prepared and the successes we chalked in 2020 we will repeat same,” Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Eric Bossman Asare told Joy News on Monday.

He further said that the date for voting in general elections in Ghana may change from December 7.

He said, however, that this year’s general elections will be held on the same date.

“So within the last few months, this is something the Commission is going to trigger. That was agreed with the political parties, that in the event we cannot marshal the forces of IPAC to have it in November 2024, the Commission should take steps to ensure that in 2028, we are going to have it in November.

“This must be clear, we were not talking about November 7. At the IPAC meeting, the decision was a day in November. So it can be the first Monday, a second Monday, a third Monday, Tuesday, Friday, or Thursday,” Dr Bossman said.

The Commission had proposed the change of the date and presented to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024.

This formed part of efforts to improve the electoral system.
