The current water level, according to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), now stands at 47.5ft instead of the safety level of 47ft. Communications Manager of the company, Stanley Martey, told Onua FM Friday that the situation has necessitated the spilling of excess water to safeguard the dam. “We can’t wait any longer and so we may have to start the spillage.  So today at 10:00am exactly we will be opening one spill gate and after some time we will add additional one,” he told host of Yen Sempa, Bright Asempa. The spilling exercise is expected to continue until the safety level is achieved. Mr Martey said GWCL has prior to the spilling, done a lot of sensitization of the people of Weija and others in the vicinity living around the banks of the Weija in to move to higher grounds to avoid being flooded.
