The suspect, Kofi Adu, was arrested in his drinking spot at Ahinsan with 188 ‘wee toffees’ – toffees laced with indian hemp. Police say the 30 year old man admitted to having laced the toffee with cannabis to be sold to interested customers.
Thirty-five year old Adwoa Atene who supplies the illegal substance to Adu, has also been arrested at Tarkwa Maakro while preparing Indian hemp-based alcoholic beverage. A search on her revealed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, the Police say.

A third person, Kwame Azure who is said to be the supplier to Adwoa Atene has also been arrested. He was arrested at Suame and the Police retrieved from him, 78 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be indian hemp.
The Police also arrested 32-year old Juliana Amoah, a native of Asini in the Brong Ahafo Region for possessing narcotic substances. She was arrested when he tried to bail her 15-year old son who was arrested with bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police say, Juliana instructed her son to travel on board a metro mass transit bus from Sunyani to Kumasi with the bags of dried leaves for delivery to a narcotic dealer. The Police, acting on intelligence, intercepted the bus at Trede and arrested boy who mentioned his mother, Juliana, as the owner.
Juliana is said to have admitted to having sent her son with the substances.
Commander of the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police, ASP Jeremiah Alale, said are poised to nip the drug trade in the region in the bud by arresting those found to be engaging in the illegal trade.
