The Chairman of the ad hoc committee probing the leaked audio recording on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Samuel Atta Akyea, says there is no intention to disgrace anybody by going public with some of the witnesses.
“We do not have malice aforethought,” he stressed on Tuesday, September 12.
“We do not believe anybody’s disgrace will inure to our benefit,” he added.
He made this clear at the start of sitting on Tuesday when the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, appeared before the committee.
Mr Atta Akyea, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South Constituency, despite disclosing over the weekend that the IGP will be invited for interrogation, indicated that the session will be in-camera.
Nonetheless, on Tuesday when the IGP and the other senior police officers who have already appeared before the seven-member committee appeared, the committee decided to go partly public.
Mr Atta Akyea insisted that there will be in-camera sessions for the witnesses but a decision was taken that matters that will not be injurious to national security are those going to be heard in public.
“I am praying to God that in listening to the IGP, he will not veer into national security matters and he understands that better than me, so that he will do something that is very [profitable].
“So, when I see that the IGP is going into areas where it is about national security I will just say that ‘Please, hold your horses’.”
