Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare was on hand to congratulate police officers deployed on Tuesday, October 3 to provide security during the #OccupyBoG demonstration.

The demonstration has been long in coming as it had witnessed perennial standoff between organisers and the police.

It was originally scheduled to be held on Tuesday, September 5 but the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service went to court to secure an injunction, a move that has seen the organisers and the police still in court.

A second notice for the demonstration to be staged on Tuesday, September 12 was called off after a disagreement between the two parties.

After the third and final date was settled, the police went to court again at the blind side of the organisers.

However, an Accra High Court dismissed the application, ruling that it was ineffective as all parties involved in the demonstration were not served.

As a result, the police had no option than to provide security on Tuesday.

It was after the protest that the senior most police officer congratulated his junior colleagues.

“I am proud of you,” he is heard as saying.
