[Update] 34 confirmed dead, 54 injured in gory crash at Dompoase, C/R

Thirty-four persons have been confirmed dead in a motor accident at Dompoase near Komenda in the Central Region. The gory accident, which occurred at around midnight on Monday, January 13 involved a Man Diesel bus with registration number GR 5704-18 – which is said to be travelling from Takoradi to Accra – and a Hyundai bus with registration number GN 3780-10 heading the in the opposite direction. Eye witnesses told Connect FM‘s Omanbapa morning show host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that the Takoradi-bound bus tried an overtaking but in the attempt collided with the opposite bus. Both drivers died instantly with one of them having his head completely chopped off. The rest of his body was trapped in the mangled vehicle. The dead included a baby and two children. It took the effort of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Cape Coast to rescue some of the injured while the mutilated bodies of the dead passengers were conveyed in vehicles to the same Interbetten.
