The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Dr Anthony Yaw Baah has said that Ghana needs a labour law that protect workers.
He stated that in the last three years, the TUC has been demanding a review of the labour laws in order to provide adequate protection for workers but their demands have not ben heeded by the government.
He assured that they will persist in that demand.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday July 18, Dr Yaw Baah said “In the last three years we have been reminding government that our labour laws must protect workers but we are not seeing and hearing anything from government.
“We were promised that the labour law will be reviewed, that is three years ago, and that also remains an issue for us to confront with and that is exactly what we are going to do. We need to have a labour law that protects workers of Ghana.”
He further stated that the TUC has its eyes on the outcome of the ongoing review of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
“That is why the struggle has been continued. The TUC has resurfaced, we have our eyes and minds firmly fixed on the outcome of the single spine review process which is currently underway.
“We are determined to work together with other organized labour groups to end the unfairness in remuneration for public sector workers on the single spine salary structure on one hand, and those under Article 71 and in some states holding enterprises on the other hand.
“We will not allow the class system in pay administration to favour article 71 office holders continue, it must end now,” he said.
