A 32-year-old woman by name Sabina Acheampong has given birth to quadruplets at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
The quadruplets were 33 weeks old in the womb and were delivered through Caesarean Section on account of high order pregnancy on Thursday, October 26.
A multi-disciplinary team involving Obstetrician specialist, Pediatricians, Anesthetists, midwives (DART) and Theatre Team at the Eastern Regional Hospital led by Dr Francis Wuobar performed the Ceasarean Section.
The quadruplets are made of two boys and two girls and are in a very good condition.
Obstetrician Gynaecologist Dr Samuel Attuah Koranteng says the four children weigh between 1.4 and 1.9kg.
Mother of the quadruplets, feeble, explained she now has five kids, a first one before the four new ones.
The Obstetrician Gynaecologist said no complications have been detected yet, but pointed out the children will be thoroughly examined to ensure that they are fit.
“This is a rare case for us because quadruplets are usually born through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). They have been admitted at the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) to be well catered for. The mother is at the recovery ward, we will monitor her until she is stable enough to care for her babies.”
Father of the quadruplets Gabriel Ninson, a peasant farmer from Owurakesim in the West Akyem Municipality, is appealing to the public to come to their aid in taking care of the babies.
“Caring for four babies won’t be easy, if I get support from benevolent ones I will be happy.”
