Cleopatra Kambugu (born male) has been formally recognized by her home country, Uganda, as a female. She calls this milestone a win for the entire LGBTQ+ community.
Cleopatra Kambugu Kentaro (born Ceasar Kambugu) was elated when she received her new identity documents with the letter: F. After years of fighting for trans-rights in Uganda, Cleopatra is happy to be making some in-roads in that area.
Cleopatra was born in 1984 in Bakuli, Uganda, where she grew up with 11 siblings. Her childhood was difficult as a boy transitioning into a transgender girl in a community riff with the stigma against the transgender community.
Narrating her experience during her filling for her official recognition as a woman, she revealed that the top officials in the citizen and passport office were surprisingly understanding.
Cleopatra Kambugu Kentaro was born in 1984. She grew up with 11 siblings in Bakuli, a suburb on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. During her childhood, she experienced hardships among her peers as she transitioned into a transgender girl.
She is now officially a Ugandan woman and human rights activist, advocating for equality and social justice. Cleopatra Kentaro was featured in the 2016 award-winning feature-length documentary The Pearl of Africa as a recognition for her advocacy.
