UEW alumni hit the streets to get VC out, dismissed staff reinstated

Some former students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) will stage a series of protests from Wednesday to demand the reinstatement of sacked lecturers and staff of the university. The protest is to also join the University Teachers Association of Ghana to pile pressure on the Vice Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni to resign. Read: UTAG wants UEW VC resigned, Council chairman investigated by Akufo-Addo The former students under the name Concerned Students and Alumni (Central Region chapter) of the University of Education, Winneba said the Vice Chancellor should be sacked if he fails to resign. “The protest on Wednesday [morning] is going to be the launch of our series of peaceful protests across the country…,” the group said. It said the series of peaceful protests shall continue until their demands are totally met. The group will converge at Mfantsipim School gate to start the exercise, move to Kotokuraba market, then to the Castle through Anafo then to the Victoria Park where a petition would be presented to the Regional Minister and the Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast. The University of Education, Winneba was closed down in February following violent protest by students over the raging impasse.
