TV3’s team on its way from Tamale in the Northern Region to Accra has narrowly escaped a robbery attack at Babato in the Bono Region. The team was returning from official assignment in the Northern and North East regions but upon reaching a sharp curve between Babato and Nante at exactly 2pm Tuesday, it was signaled by two young men who were also running for their lives to make a U-turn as robbers were plundering passengers of two MAN Diesel trucks. Minutes after the team had turned back towards the north, a police vehicle headed for the scene. The team managed to signal about seven vehicles including three Yutong and GrandBird vehicles, three pick-ups, one sprinter and some motor riders to return. A victim narrated her ordeal to the crew. “The robbers hit me with a stick in my abdomen and took my money,” she sobbed. Our crew gathered the robbers were successful with their operation as they robbed the woman of an undisclosed amount of money and another woman, who was in the second MAN Diesel truck, of her GH¢20,000. One of the drivers MAN Diesel vehicle is suspected to have been shot by the robbers as he attempted fleeing. He was yet to return to the scene after 30 minutes of the robbery. “My driver has not returned, I can’t go without him,” a teary aged woman narrated. “I don’t know whether he was shot while running to the bush or he ran there without any gunshot wounds.” The police told our crew – made up of Daniel Tettey Ocloo, Zubaida Ismail and Joseph Asamoah – that this is the third information of robbery attack they are getting on Tuesday.
