TV3 & 3FM hosts public forum on security in Ghana today

TV3 and 3FM under the Media General Group will on Thursday, August 12 put the spotlight on Ghana’s security situation in its latest thought-leadership series forum.  

Crime and Security continue to feature in the top five (5) perennial problems Ghanaians identify in Afrobarometer surveys they want the government to address.

The last 3 months for instance have seen several reported cases of broad daylight robberies, murders, attacks on Mobile Money vendors among others. These have necessitated a conversation of national character to access the situation. 

In response, TV3 and 3FM will empanel security, governance analysts and duty bearers to diagnose the challenges in that area and proffer solutions.

The forum is on the theme, “Examining Security in Ghana: Options for Action”.

Speakers will answer the question- What is the problem with the security sector and what are the solutions? They will also speak to specific topics as follows:

  1. Professor Kofi Abotsi (Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)): In search of the law, practice and security for Ghanaians.  
  2. Hon. Peter Toobu (MP for Wa West and Member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament)-Reforming Ghana’s security sector: Parliament’s role
  3. PNK.  Aborampah Mensah (Senior Programs Officer and Lead Security Governance Team, CDD Ghana) – Civil-Military Relations- Are we eroding the gains? 
  4. Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar (Executive Director, West Africa Centre for Counter-Extremism (WACCE): Preventing and Combating Violent Extremism: The Recruitment and Radicalization of the Ghanaian Youth
  5. ACP Kwesi Ofori (Acting Director-General, Public Affairs Directorate (PAD)), Ghana Police Service: An overview of current security issues in Ghana

The forum is strictly by invitation and will be live on TV3, 3FM, 3news.com and across all the social media platforms of the Media General Group.
