The MP for Builsa South and Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr Clement Apaak has said that the time is apt to hold a national stakeholders’ forum on the Free Senior High School policy.

He said although the policy is serving the country well, it will be better if the prevailing challenges are addressed.

Mr. Apaak said this in reaction to a national dialogue hosted by TV3 with the theme, “Free SHS in Perspective: Problems, Progress and Prospects. The forum, which was held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 was attended by key stakeholders in the education sector.

They included; Prof. Stephen Adei, an Educationist, Dr. Partey Anti of IFES, Mr. Kofi Asare of Eduwatch Dr. Adu Sarkodie of the University of Ghana among others.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, he proposed that TV3’s forum should serve as the catalyst for Government to review the FSHS policy.

“This should serve as a foundation for government to convene a national stakeholder’s forum for us to have a much more holistic conversation on the policy sustainability, resources needed, source of resources, and if there should be target consideration. We need to look at the module. The only way to have a clear option is through national stakeholders,” he stated.

Mr. Apaak added that reviewing the policy will also provide an opportunity to address concerns raised by the IMF executives during the application for a bailout.

“IMF indicated the way FSHS is being implemented is currently is not the best. There is the need to look at it,” the MP noted.
