This must stop! Auditor General protests Board Chair interference

The Auditor General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to call the Board Chairman and members of the Board of the Audit Service to order for interfering with the execution of his mandate. In a letter to the president, Mr. Domelovo stated instances where the Board Chairman issued some directives that go contrary to a directive he (Mr. Domelovo) has previously given as part of his lawful mandate. He noted that the Board Chairman, Professor Edward Dua Agyeman, has on many occasions interfered and violated some procurement processes. “I received a complaint from one of the prospective vendors that his firm was stopped from submitting their proposals. My investigation revealed that the Audit Service Board Chairman instructed Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, a Deputy Auditor General, and Mr. Ebenezer Aglomasa, a Procurement Officer, to replace the approved firms with others of his (Chairman) choice.” According the Auditor General, Mr. Agyeman also breached some confidentiality clauses of the Audit Service by making public some documents reserved for specific persons within the Service. He also accused the Board Chairman of taking some decisions without his knowledge. Mr. Domelevo further said although he has warned the Board Chairman on several occasions to desist from his acts – which contradicts the laws that govern the Audit Service – his actions still persist. He said he has on many occasions considered legal actions against Mr. Agyeman for interfering and breaching certain process. The Auditor General is therefore appealing to President Akufo-Addo to deal with the issue. “I wish to bring to your attention the unlawful interference  and violations of my constitutional mandate by the Board Chairman-Prof Edward Dua Agyeman and the Board of the Ghana Audit Service and respectfully request for your intervention. “The Chairman and his allies are clothing themselves with powers to direct and control me unconstitutionally, and this must stop,” he noted. Mr. Domelovo said he is committed to performing his duties without going contrary to what is expected of him by law, and would not kowtow to any attempt by the Board of the Audit Service to violate these laws.
