A former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has asked former President John Dramani Mahama to produce evidence to support his claim that the students cheated in the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) hence the remarkable results.

Mr Anyidoho described the comment by Mr Mahama as scandalous.

The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had said the recent exercise undertaken by the students was fraught with malpractices.

During his visit to the Mfantseman constituency as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in the Central region, the former President alleged that some invigilators instead of ensuring candidates did independent work, aided students in answering the questions.

His cheating allegations follow a declaration by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, that, the 2023 WASSCE results is the best the nation has recorded since 2015.

“In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later,” John Mahama averred.

He said the implication of the development will hit the nation sooner or later.

“You certify these children saying they are of this standard either the BECE or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is,” he indicated.

Reacting to this on his X Platform, Koku Anyidoho, also a former presidential spokesperson during the Mills administration said “This is scandalous. So, the former President believes that all our hardworking children cheated in their exams In connivance with their teachers/parents? Eish!! Does he have any evidence? Hmmm!!! I have seen children working very hard to excel and this is not fair to them. pic.twitter.com/r6WwXdMqSI

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the remarkable outcome of the 2023 WASSCE was a result of hard work on the part of the students.

He indicated that the students made Ghana proud with their good results.

“Congratulations to all WASSCE students, their teachers as well as their parents for the excellent performance attained by the students in this year’s WASSCE. This is no doubt the result of hard work and dedication by all of you.

“You have made Ghana proud and I wish you the very best as you move on to greater challenges. Please don’t let anyone denigrate your achievements. Not everyone can appreciate what it takes to be an intelligent student. You have earned the excellent performances by dint of hard work. God bless you. I wish you all a happy new year,” he also wrote on his X platform.
