Bawku Central Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga has condemned the shooting, injuring and killing of some members of the security agencies in Bawku on Monday 3rd April 2023.

He described the action as “most reprehensible and should not be repeated. An investigation into the matter must be conducted and the perpetrators brought to book.

“Let me on behalf of the people of Bawku express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased security personnel and extend our prayers to the wounded.”

He further urgned the government to be proactive in advancing a lasting peace process in Bawku.

One officer of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) was shot dead by unknown assailants in conflict-prone Bawku in the Upper East Region.

Two other officers are fighting for their lives at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital, where they were rushed after the incident.

The three were attacked Monday night on their way to Missiga station, 3news.com gathers.

It’s unclear what the motive of the attackers were but their action is said to be related to the protracted ethnic conflict in the area.

Civilians have been terrorised by gunmen who have been at the center of Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict.

The deceased officer has been identified as Philip Motey while the injured are Eric Ayibiya, 30, and Laurence Afri, 42.

Military presence have been beefed up in the town as the gunmen are chased.
