[L-R] Johnnie Hughes and Dan Kweku Botwe on TV3’s New Day[/caption]Minister of Regional Re-organization and Development, Daniel Kweku Botwe, says there is still more work to be done by his ministry despite the completion of the creation of the six new regions. Contrary to the view that the Ministry will be collapsed with the successful creation of the new regions, the Minister said that will not happen as their focus now be on ensuring the development of and the disbursement of the 20 million-cedi seed capital for each of the 6 regions.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in January 2017 created the Ministry of Regional Re-organisation the primary responsibility of supervising the creation of the Ahafo, Bone East, North East, Savannah, Oti and Western North regions. Though critics of the creation of the Ministry were expecting its collapse now that the regions are duly created, Mr. Botwe said on TV3 New Day Tuesday only a part of his Ministry’s mandate has been executed. Mr. Botwe explained the work of the Ministry now is to engage the new regions on their development plans and help execute them. “We have to now go back to the regions, we have been working with them for the past two years and it is easier to continue to discuss all the plans we asked from the districts, and we now have to find a way of consolidating it what we have already done”, he explained. He added: “We have to go back and see how we will interface with them [new regions]so there is still work to be done”. He said it is for that reason that the ministry was christened Regional Re-organization and Development. “The work is not ended; we have the development aspect to pursue and I think we are quite clear with what we want to do,” he stated. Meanwhile, the minister has described as sad and unfortunate, a the burning of the NPP constituency office at Salaga over the siting of the Savannah regional capital in Damongo.
