The deputy head of corporate affairs of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, has disclosed that the Yaa Asantewaa Museum is on the table for renovation, redevelopment and rehabilitation.

Appearing on Onua Showbiz with Nana Kwame Gyan, Kofi indicated that the amount granted by the World Bank was meant to push tourism and hence, it is being invested in the cause.

“That amount of $40 million was to strengthen the tourism environment, including the creative arts industry. So if you watch closely, there has been a lot that has been discussed majorly. It was overwhelming to have these current pictures and videos out there but just as it is, Yaa Asantewaa Museum is on the table for renovation, redevelopment and rehabilitation,” he said.

The museum in question turned 100 years, in 2021 so the minister for tourism and his deputy went to see the traditional council concerning the fact that the place was going to be renovated to place it at the international level.

“In 2021, it was about 100 years. We did a grand festival for it. It is for this reason that the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture led by the minister and his deputy, visited the traditional council. Within that period, an announcement had been made to make sure that the Yaa Asantewaa Museum was renovated to that international pedestal,” he mentioned.

Speaking on why nothing had been done about the place from 2021 till now, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi suggested that “Everything boils down to finances. To be able to get the right finances, you push. Immediately the World Bank gave the country $40 million, we marked all the tourist sites; Kwame Nkrumah Museum, Yaa Asantewaa Museum, Manhyia Palace, Tetteh Quarshie Museum. All these tourist sites and attractions were earmarked for renovations, rehabilitation and redevelopment.”

He continued, “As I speak, renovation is ongoing at the Manhyia Palace. It is now that money that was granted is being allocated to the various tourists sites and attractions.”

To conclude his submission, he pointed out that “I can confidently tell you that Yaa Asantewaa Museum is one of the top-most places to be renovated, constructed and redeveloped just as Kwame Nkrumah has been done. It is a major tourist site for us.”
