Former Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah, has acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead for Asante Kotoko as they navigate through a period of transition ahead of the 2023/23 season.

Appiah is part of a four-member committee appointed by Kotoko owner Otumfuo Osei II to oversee the club’s affairs, including building a competitive team for the upcoming season, set to kick off in September.

At present, Kotoko are operating without a board or management, as Otumfuo Osei II has chosen to entrust the club’s fate to the capable hands of Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, Kwesi Appiah, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum, and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Kwesi Appiah expressed an understanding of the challenges that lie ahead for Kotoko during this transitional phase. He acknowledged that the upcoming season will not be an easy one for the club.

“The season will not be easy for Kotoko, but once we have a substantive coach, he will be looking at players who will be leaving and then recruit new ones as replacements,” said Appiah, highlighting the importance of recruiting new talent to bolster the team’s strength.

Appiah also addressed the impact of the ongoing national camp (Black Galaxies) on the team’s pre-season preparations. He acknowledged that it might affect their training plans but remained optimistic about their readiness for the season.

“The pre-season will be affected a little bit, but I think with intensive six weeks of training, the team should be ready,” he asserted, emphasising the importance of dedicated training to prepare the players for the challenges ahead.
