The Minister for National Security Albert Kan-Dapaah has been commended for taking steps to avert potentially violent clashes in parts of the country.

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere Darko who commended the National Security Minister also called for prayers for the men and women in uniform who keep watch over the people and do their best to maintain law and order.

“I must commend the National Security Minister, the National Security Coordinator and the intelligence service for taking two separate proactive steps to avoid what could potentially have provoked violent clashes in (1) Berekum during a royal funeral and (2) sleepy Cantonments at the Office of the NDC Presidential Candidate. We should also be grateful to those who did not insist on their ‘rights’ but, for the sake of peace, succumbed to the persuasion from National Security, like Ernest Owusu Bempah.

“We must continue to pray also for the men and women in uniform who keep watch over us and do their best to maintain law and order. The soldiers, the police,” the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute tweeted.

Mr Kan-Dapaah stopped the planned demonstration by the Fixing The Country Movement, against former President John Dramani Mahama.

The Minister stopped the demonstration over security concerns.

Announcing this in a press statement, Convener of the group, Ernest Owusu-Bempah said that “The Fixing the Country Movement wishes to inform the general public that due to a formal order by the Ministry of National Security, the planned demonstration and picketing at the Cantonments office of former President John Mahama scheduled for Thursday, November 23, 2024 has been called off.

“National Security informed our leadership of a perceived security consideration that necessitated their request and we have subsequently suspended the demonstration indefinitely.”

He further apologized “to our teeming supporters across the country for the last minute cancellation, we wish to assure them that the campaign to ensure that the Special Prosecutor rapidly investigates the controversial Air Bus bribery saga continues unabated.

“We will employ all legal and constitutional means to ensure that the investigation is pursued to its logical conclusion.”
