Teacher dead, over 40 students injured in accident involving Mangoase SHS

A bus carrying some students of the Mangoase Senior High School has been involved in an accident on the Asesewa road in the Eastern Region. There were about 50 people onboard the bus as they were on their way to Lower Manya Krobo for an excursion. According to an eye witness account, the accident occurred at about 9:00am on Saturday, October 13. The driver is said to have tried to negotiate a curve when his brake failed and the vehicle somersaulted and fell in a ditch. So far, a teacher has been confirmed dead. Most students as well as the driver who were injured are receiving treatment at the Atua Government Hospital in the Region. “We have 48 students, and the driver and one teacher (deceased), making them 50. Some of the students have been directed to undergo X-ray scan. We are waiting for the results of the scan to ascertain what is wrong with them,” Marylove Naa Mills, a DDS at the Atua Government Hospital disclosed, in Twi. She noted that the entire team of doctors and nurses at the Hospital were working to ensure that the accident victims receive the best of care. One of the students with a fractured leg, however, has been referred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital for further care.
