The management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has donated GH¢500,000 to the National Pensioners Association. The donation is aimed at supporting the Pensioners’ Medical Scheme to cater for the health needs of the Association’s members nationwide. The Board Chairman of SSNIT, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, led management to do the presentation at a ceremony in Kumasi on Monday. Presenting the cheque, Dr Addo Kufuor reiterated that it is the desire of the Trust to see their pensioners alive and well. He said the presentation was in fulfilment of a promise the management of SSNIT made in 2018 to support the medical scheme of pensioners. Monday’s presentation brings the total amount of support SSNIT has given to the Pensioners’ Medical Scheme to GH¢800,000 in two years. The new board of SSNIT, upon the assumption of office in March 2017, pledged to prioritise the welfare of  pensioners. The management took the first step in the fulfilment of the promise and presented an amount of GH¢300,000 to the medical scheme in 2017. The 2017 donation contributed to the eye and optical care coverage for glaucoma, cataract procedure and spectacle subsidies; eulogical and gynaecological conditions and the purchase of drugs not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Dr Addo Kufuor lauded the executives of the National Pensioners Association for putting the funds into asset management to attract interest so it can cover more beneficiaries. Edward Ameyibor, the General Secretary of the Association, expressed gratitude to the management of SSNIT for the donation and thanked them for the support. By Antwi Boasiako|3news.com|Ghana]]>
