Sierra Leone’s telecom regulator benchmarks Ghana’s NCA

The National Communications Authority (NCA) on Monday 11th April, 2022 welcomed a four (4)-member delegation from the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) of Sierra Leone, at the NCA Tower in Accra.

The one-day visit, led by the Deputy Director General, Mr. Amara Brewah, was aimed at benchmarking some of the regulatory policies guiding some specific services in Ghana.

In a welcome remarks read on behalf of the Director General of NCA, Mr. Joe Anokye, the Deputy Director General for Technical Operations, Dr. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng said that the NCA is pleased that NATCOM had reached out to benchmark some of its successes.

He said in a digital technological era where innovation and the development of ICT infrastructure has become paramount, it is important for Telecom Regulators to share and discuss some of the regulations and guidelines which backs the services they regulate.

He assured the delegation that their expectations of gaining knowledge on Mobile Money Regulations, Data Regulation and Fraud management amongst others will be met as the NCA has the requisite expertise in these areas. Dr. Yeboah-Boateng also encouraged the delegation to share ideas that can enhance the execution of the NCA’s mandate.


In his opening remarks, Mr. Amara Brewah, Deputy Director General at NATCOM said the visit comes at a very crucial time where the Commission is transitioning to an Authority and also when almost all Mobile Network Operators in Sierra Leone are venturing into the mobile money service.

He noted that Ghana has been seen as one of the countries that has a remarkable experience in their telecom regulatory activities therefore, it was worth visiting and learning to improve their operations.

He was grateful for the opportunity offered by the NCA to exchange ideas, and also expressed his hope that the continuous, mutually beneficial relationship between the two regulators will be enhanced going forward. Mr. Amara Brewah was accompanied by Mr. Abdul Bah (Director IT), Smart Kokofele (Director, Regulatory Administration) and Mr. Musa Jalloh (Deputy Director Regulatory Administration), all of NATCOM.
