Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first President, has given an impetus to her ambition to become the country’s first female President.

The former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party on December 31, 2015 filed her nomination forms seeking to become the presidential candidate of the Party in the 2016 Presidential Election.

Ms. Nkrumah in submitting her forms and filling fees of GHC155,000 thanked all those who “contributed their widows might” towards the payment of her nomination and filing fees.

“Today, I officially filed to become a presidential candidate of the CPP,” she posted on her Facebook wall moments after filing her forms at the Party’s headquarters in Accra.

Ms. Samia in June last year declared her intention to run for president in 2016, noting that her decision is to achieve her father’s unaccomplished vision for Ghana.

“Given the opportunity I am going to revisit his Seven-Year Development Plan for Ghana, contextualise it, and adopt it to today’s changing circumstances… “I am contesting in order to give life to Nkrumah’s ideas that will provide opportunities to our desperate youth and end social misery and poverty,” she told the Daily Graphic in December.

Meanwhile, in her New Year message on January 1, Ms Samia said although the CPP offers Ghanaians “sincerity in politics,” it has been the party has been starved.

“2016 is a New Year but it will soon look like the old year if you postpone the bold choices that lurk deep inside your mind and your conscience… choosing the CPP is one of the bold choices that awaits you in 2016,” she said.
