Sam George, Kamal Deen, Bernard Mornah join TV3 staff to plant trees

Samuel Nartey George of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Abdul Kamal Deen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday June 10 joined hosts of the New Day show Berla Mundi, Johnnie Hughes and Helen Appiah-Ampofo to plant trees on the premises of TV3 as part of the Green Ghana Day exercise.

Sam George described the Gree Ghana Day exercise as a “laudable idea and we are all going to take part of it.”

Beyond planting, he said “let us ensure the trees grow.”

Mr Mornah said “We must ensure that it is not just a one day event.”

“Plant a tree and save life tomorrow. I am very happy to take part in this exercise,” he added.

Kamal Deen for his part said “I pray that this becomes something that will benefit all of us.”

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor urged all Ghanaians and residents to take part in the Green Ghana Day exercise today Friday June 10 to plant trees across the country.

“Happily, our 2021 Green Ghana tree is doing very well and we have just picked our 2022 Green Ghana trees for planting! #Green Ghana; Let’s go planting!!,” he tweeted on Friday.

20million trees are going to be planted during exercise, Mr Jinpro said.

He said this while addressing a press conference in Parliament on Wednesday June 8 regarding the exercise. The theme for this year’s Green Ghana Day exercise is “Mobilizing for a Greener Future”.

The Minister said that efforts at restoring Ghana’s forests in the past had not been effective and forceful, hence, the Green Ghana Project which was to drive efforts towards an aggressive afforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana which contributes to the global efforts to fight climate change.
