Saboba: Task force impounds over 1k bags of smuggled PFJ fertilizer

A task force formed by the Saboba District Security Committee to monitor the activities of smuggling in the district has impounded over 1,000 bags of fertilizer meant for the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme. The PFJ fertilizers were intercepted on Tuesday, June 30 around 1 am at Wurugu. Explaining the incident to journalists, the Saboba District Chief Executive, George Kitingyab Bingreni, revealed the task force was formed to monitor activities of smuggling in the district. He noted that the district was banned from receiving Planting for Food and Jobs fertilizer some two years ago by the Ministry of Agriculture due to increased smuggling of the fertilizer meant for the programme. Mr Kitingyab Bingreni indicated that the ban was lifted in 2020 with some agents accredited to supply the fertilizer. He, however, noted that the smuggling did not stop. This prompted the District Security Committee (DISEC) to constitute a task force to monitor the activities of smuggling in the area. “The task force did their best by impounding the fertilizer and we will ensure the owner is arrested and prosecuted.” He called on the people and other security agencies to support the fight against smuggling.
