Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor has filed a writ at the Supreme Court praying it to order President Nana Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to relinquish their position over the Anas Aremeyaw Anas latest expose. According to the farmer-cum-politician, Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia “must immediately step down” to allow “fair investigations” into the audacious claims made by the embattled GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, in the #Number12 investigative documentary. A writ issued at the Supreme Court last Wednesday by her lawyers, Akua Donkor claimed “it is obvious” that the president and his vice “are highly involved” in the claims put forth by Nyantakyi when he met some undercover agents of Anas who posed as investors. What Nyantakyi said about Akufo-Addo, Bawumia In the undercover documentary, Nyantakyi was caught on tape allegedly laying out plans of how he could help the supposed investors to secure big contracts and eventually rule Ghana. READ:We’ll take over Ghana with money – Kwesi Nyantakyi tells Anas’ ‘investors’ He claimed he could arrange a meeting for the ‘investors’ to meet with Ghana’s president and his vice as well as the Roads and Highways Minister on condition that they could advance 11 million dollars to him to be shared among them. Five million of the amount, according to Nyantakyi in the video, was to be given to the president Nana Akufo-Addo, and 3 million to his vice Dr. Bawumia. The Roads Minister and his deputy were to be given 2 million and 1 million respectively.
Prior to the premiering of the video on June 6 in Accra, President Akufo-Addo who had the privilege to watch it lodged a complaint against Nyantakyi at the Police CID for alleged influence peddling. Influence peddling claim Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor on May 22 told journalists the #Number12 documentary, captured Kwesi Nyantakyi using the President’s name, the Vice President’s name and names of other state officials to induce potential investors to part way with some sums of money. Nyantakyi was subsequently invited for investigations and cautioned by the Police. The case is still under investigations. ‘I acted alone’ After the premiering of the documentary, Nyantakyi issued a statement on June 9 to take full responsibility for his actions in the investigative piece, claiming he did not consult any government officials as he suggested in the video. “I wish to clarify that at no time prior to or subsequent to any deliberations on the video did I consult, contact or inform any Government official about discussions on the video. I take sole and personal responsibility for the proceedings on the video,” he claimed in the statement. Akufo-Addo, Bawumia must step down But Madam Akua Donkor believes that “to be fair and unbiased in carrying out investigations” into the incident” Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia must step down from the presidency. “Plaintiff maintains that Kwesi Nyantakyi’s words are facts and are issues occurring in Ghana day in and day out and that is why he acted as such,” Madam Akua Donker averred in her statement of case. In Akua Donkor’s view, corruption in Ghana is at the highest peak hence the comment by Nyantakyi that “they will take over the whole country since he is much aware that the President of the Republic of Ghana, his Vice President and some of their top political leaders are all part of the corruption”. She is thus praying the Supreme Court to “compel or order” the Attorney General, who is the president’s legal advisor, “to advise” Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia “to step down from the highest seat to allow fair investigations to be conducted into the Kwesi Nyantakyi”. Key officials among those caught in the corruption quagmire were Mr. Nyantakyi, the Greater Accra Regional FA president Eddie Doku and the Northern Sector FA president Abu.
