Read Chief Justice nominee’s answer on LGBTQI during her vetting

“I think I have made it clear that when I walk into the court, all my thoughts are soaked in the law.”

Those were the words of the Chief Justice nominee Gertrude Torkornoo when she was asked about her professional and faith positions on the issue of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex  (LGBTIQI), during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, May 26.

The question was asked by the Deputy Minister of Education who is also also Member of Parliament for Assin South.

Ghana is seeking to pass the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, popularly known as the Anti-Gay Bill.

Proposed under a Private Members’ Bill, the anti-gay bill is expected to criminalise some of the activities of homosexuals in Ghana.
