The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is urging consumers to be calm as it charges the utility companies to come out with modalities on what to expect in the new increments. The PURC said it is waiting for the companies to furnish the outfit with reckoning which will enable the PURC come out with education on the implementation. Consumers of electricity and water across the country will be paying more for utilities following the upward tariff adjustment announced by the PURC last month. The PURC approved an 11.17% and 8.01% for electricity and water respectively, taking effect from Monday, July 1. The increment followed proposals from the Volta River Authority (VRA), the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Enclave Power Company Limited (EPC). Speaking in an interview with Onua FM’s Yen Sempa on Monday, the Public Relations Officer for the PURC, Munkaila Bawa, said “we are on the utilities service providers to furnish us with reckoning so consumers should exercise patient”. “We can use the reckoning to come out with an education on the increment. We are on them to bring it,” he explained. By Kweku Antwi-Otoo|3news.com|Ghana]]>
