The Upper East Region has recorded its first case of the deadly novel coronavirus, bringing to six the total number of regions which has so far recorded confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the person “has no travel history or contact with any of the confirmed cases”.

But information obtained by 3news.com from the region indicates the person is a pregnant woman who lives in Bolgatanga with her family and recently travelled to Tarkwa in the Western Region.

She is said to have returned to Bolga on board a public transport, raising fears she may have infected others. The sources say contact tracing has started in earnest.

Ghana’s cases now stands at 205 with five deaths and three recoveries. Forty-nine others have been discharged from isolation centres across the country and currently being managed from home

Two persons are currently in critical condition while 136 others are said to be responding to treatment.

The Greater Accra Region now leads with 183 cases followed by the Northern Region with 10 cases and Ashanti Region with 9 cases.

The Upper West, Eastern Region and Upper East regions have all recorded one case each.

“Most of the cases are reported from routine / enhanced surveillance activities. Cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89,” the Ghana Health Service said on its website.
