North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said his colleague lawmaker for Adansi Asokwa KT Hammond is wrong in his comments reacting to the heckling of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the Global Citizens Festival in Accra on Saturday September 24.

KT Hammond lashed out at the youth and said they have shown that they cannot govern if handed the reins.

He further described the situation as scandalous.

“That was scandalous. I don’t think that, as a nation, we’ve gotten to that stage. I was petrified when I heard that.

“I didn’t understand it. I haven’t seen anything of this sort before. We shouldn’t be setting precedents that cannot be handled.

“Whatever the issue is, people have no business hooting at the President. There should be some respect because that isn’t democratic,” he journalists on Tuesday, September 27.

But responding to him in a tweet, Mr Ablakwa said “The very people who hail us when leadership produces positive results do not deserve to be vilified when they express disappointment in leaders for their abysmal performance K.T. Hammond is terribly wrong & it’s an outlandish fallacy for him to claim the youth aren’t fit to lead.”

Mr Akufo-Addo during the event delivered a keynote address amidst jeering from the crowd.

He spoke about the government of Ghana’s involvement in eradicating poverty and upholding national unity.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I extend a hearty Akwaaba, our word of welcome, from a very hospitable people. To all of you, who have come from afar and wide, to our vibrant city of Accra, Ghana’s capital, to join us on this great occasion,” the President said at the event amidst the heckling.
