Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Koku Anyidoho has said the decision by some Minority members in Parliament to vote in favour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees should not be considered as treachery.
“Were we not excited when some NPP MPs helped us win the Speakership?” he asked, alluding to the unprecedented election of Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the Eighth Parliament on Friday, January 8, 2021.
“Was that also treachery from the NPP?” he wondered.
He asked these questions in a tweet on Friday, March 24 following the outcome of the secret ballot in Parliament earlier in the day.
After a heated debate on the report of the Appointments Committee, the approval or otherwise of the six ministerial appointees was put to secret voting.
Despite entrenched positions taken by the caucuses of the House, all six nominees sailed through.
The outcome appeared to have incensed NDC followers, who were looking forward to all their MPs – 137 in all – rejecting the appointees.
Some have imputed treachery to the action of the NDC MPs.
But the former Presidential Spokesperson seems to disagree.
How can the approval of Ministers be considered as treachery? Were we not excited when some npp MPs helped us win the Speakership? Was that also treachery from the npp? Why do some people think they have more sense than others?
