The United Nations (UN) Eminent Peace Ambassador to Ghana and the Country Director for the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) Ghana Chapter, Dr Samuel Ben Owusu has commended the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana for successfully conducting the Kumawu and Assin North by-elections.

He noted that there were not too many cases of electoral challenges in the conduct of the two by-elections.

In a short statement, Dr Ben Owusu noted that electoral materials were dispatched timely to voting centers to enable voters to cast their ballots.

Also, he said, the few electoral issues that came up in both elections were quickly attended to by the Commission.

“These are all signs of improvement in the electoral system in Ghana,” portions of his statement said.

He further called on all the political parties especially the two major ones, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) “to collaborate with the EC in improving Ghana’s elections.”

The NPP candidate Ernest Yaw Anim won the Kumawu by-election while the NDC’s James Gyake Quayson also won the Assin North election.
