A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ernest Owusu Bempah has blamed former President John Dramani Mahama for the inciteful comment of the Suame youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)  Razak Avoliya.

Mr Owusu Bempah said the youth of the NDC are motivated by the past comment of Mr Mahama to the effect that  “… I just want to sound the caution that NDC has revolutionary roots and when it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat us in unleashing violence.”

Mr Bempah’s comments come after the Ghana Police Service announced that it has arrested Razak Avoliya following an investigation into a viral video in which he incited political violence ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The suspect is in Police custody and will be put before the court to face justice.

Mr Bempah told journalists in Accra on Wednesday, February 8 that “Mahama was the one who incited him and the youth to engage in violence. We all remember his comments that the NDC has revolutionary roots and when it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat them in unleashing violence.

“He is responsible for the young man’s reckless statement. He has met them because when you listen to the guy’s statement, he says their leadership has asked them to say those things.”

He added “Mahama’s conduct of attacking the judiciary and Asiedu Nketia making false claims about election results when they didn’t even have the results are all fuelling this conduct. These are all hatched plans of Mahama, he knows he cannot win the 2024 elections and so the only way he can do that is to incite his people to engage in violence

“Ghanaian people will reject that kind of leader who doesn’t have the national interest at heart and will always resort to violence. In 2012 when he rigged the elections, nobody attacked the NDC and the judiciary, you didn’t see any NPP member going to attack anyone, we accepted in good faith.

“Mahama till date after the 2020 election petition Supreme Court ruling has not come out to accept defeat. He is a dangerous and diabolic man who should not be allowed to come anywhere near power. We have picked an intelligence stating that they are inciting their members to incite violence. We are calling on the Police service to act quickly to deal with this because if they start going like that NPP youth will also retaliate and protect themselves.”

The Director of Communications for the NPP, Mr Richard Ahiagbah also asked the NDC to expel the Suame youth organizer for his conduct.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 8, the Director of Communications for the NPP Richard Ahiagbah said “We demand the NDC to unreservedly disallow, disassociate and expel the young man from their party without delay.

“That is the only point we can begin to take NDC seriously and show that they are not shielding him and discouraging such commentaries in our politics. Nothing short of this will suffice.”
