Former Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah is urging delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Western Region to vote for his son, Koby Sebastion Spio-Garbrah, in the party’s primaries this weekend.

He said a vote for his son to enter Parliament, as the ultimate goal, will afford a lot more people the opportunity to see “fireworks”.

“Those of you in Essikado-Ketan who think he could be a good leader should vote for him to enter Parliament, and you will see fireworks,” he told journalists on Monday, May 8.

Dr Spio-Garbrah was addressing journalists on Saturday’s Presidential and Parliamentary primaries of the NDC.

His son is contesting 2020 Parliamentary Candidate Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah for the slot.

Essikado-Ketan Constituency is currently occupied by New Patriotic Party’s Joe Ghartey, who is expected to give up the seat to pursue the flagbearership slot of the NPP.

His election in 2020 was challenged in court by Prof Ayensu-Danquah. That victory was, however, affirmed.

At the meeting with the journalists, Dr Spio-Garbrah also threw support for John Dramani Mahama as the candidate to save not only NDC supporters but Ghanaians, as a whole, from the current economic mismanagement under the Akufo-Addo administration.

He said Ghana needs rapid ideas from someone to turn the economic situation around.

“Based on the above analyses and considering the current harsh economic conditions in Ghana, I wish to call on all NDC supporters to unite our resources and strengths behind President John Mahama to win the imminent flagbearership contest and also to win the 2024 general elections.”
