The Ashanti Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed what appears to have won more votes for the NDC in the Region during the 2020 general elections.

After a woeful performance in 2016 which saw the NDC exit power, Andrews Augustus Nana Akwasi together with his executives increased the party’s votes from a little over 400,000 to over 600,000.

This translates into a percentage shot from 23 [percent] in 2016 to 26 [percent] in 2020.

“The NPP thought I was calm and could not increase the votes of the NDC, comparing me with Wontumi who is very loud, but look, my brother, Ghanaian voters do not want people who are radical and beat war drums,” he said in an interview.

“They want to listen to good policies. My job, together with my executives, was to sell then Candidate Mahama and also propagate the rich manifesto of the NDC, and we did that to win more votes.”

The NDC in 2020 did not only increase their votes under Augustus Nana Akwasi but also won back the New Edubiase seat.

“I vowed to pull every resource the party has given me including my own to win the New Edubiase seat, and that’s exactly what we did,” he told a local radio station in Kumasi.

The party chairman, who has expressed interest to contest again, said he remains focused and will double his 2020 perform to ensure the NDC breaks another political record in the Ashanti Region.
