The opposition People’s National Covention (PNC) has distanced itself from a press conference held by minority political parties against the recent decision by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to conduct this year’s limited voter registration at its district offices.

The parties on Monday, August 21 claimed the move by the EC could disenfranchise many eligible voters ahead of the 2024 crucial elections.

Among the parties at the press conference were the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

“While the PNC indeed holds reservations concerning the aforementioned decision made by the Electoral Commission, it is imperative to clarify that the party did not provide its endorsement for the said press conference conducted by the other minority political parties,” a statement signed by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla said.

“Therefore, the PNC seeks to explicitly distance itself from the content and implications of the press release issued during the event.”

The EC will be conducting the limited registration exercise ahead of the district level and unit committee election on Tuesday, December 19.
