Deputy Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ernest Owusu Bempah has said the NPP will win the upcoming Assin North by-election.

He said all the internal problems in the party that resulted in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate James Gyakye Quayson winning the seat in the 2020 elections have been resolved by the NPP.

“We are going to win that seat,” he told Roland Walker on the Big Issue on TV3 Thursday, June 8.

He added, “we have resolved the problems and we are coming out to win.”

Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Assin North Constituency on Wednesday, June 7 overwhelmingly voted for Charles Opoku to lead their party in the June 27 by-elections.

Mr Opoku polled 397 out of the total valid votes cast to beat his sole contender, Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei, who polled 136 votes, in the primaries held on Wednesday, June 7.

The primaries were held at the Church of Pentecost in Akonfodi in Assin Bereku with national executives led by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong in attendance.

Supporters of Charles Opoku broke into jubilation after the ballots were sorted out given the volumes on the desk of the electoral officers.

With the results declared, they were beside themselves with joy congratulating their candidate.

Before the elections, the two aspirants were made to swear allegiance to help to ensure that the NPP reclaims the Assin North seat.

Charles Opoku will battle James Gyakye Quayson, the deposed Assin North Member of Parliament.
