The mass action to be spearheaded by pressure groups Let My Vote Count, Alliance for Accountable Governance and Movement for Change is planned for Wednesday, September 16 despite a standoff with the police over protection.
Sammy Awuku said the action is not an antagonistic one against the EC.
“It is about the collective destiny of our country and the survival of our democracy,” he noted on social media.
“Surely elections are a process and the process which includes a voters register, must be credible.”
The Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stirred the debate on the current voters’ register after alleging that at least 76,000 Togolese had their names in it.
This has been strongly rejected by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a number of other political parties but the EC has asked the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to present views on the issue by next week.
Sammy Awuku wants more Ghanaians to join the walk from Obra Spot in order to “demonstrate our anger and peacefully make our concerns known to the Commission”.
