Incumbent Members of Parliament have been trooping to constituency offices of the New Patriotic Party to file their nominations as submission of forms ends on Thursday. In the heat of the exercise, supporters of the various aspirants have been urged to engage in clean and fair campaign ahead of the April 25 polls. At the Atwima Nwabiagya North constituency, a large crowd accompanied Benito Owusu-Bio, the deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, to file his nomination. The incumbent Member of Parliament, who is seeking a fourth term in office, is facing fierce contest from one Frank Yeboah. He urged supporters of the various aspirants to conduct a clean campaign in the spirit of party unity. “We are all one family and there is no need to fight among each other. If someone supports a candidate, the person must not be victimized. Supporters should conduct fair and clean campaign”. Benito pleaded with the delegates to extend his mandate to continue with development works in the area. “President Akufo-Addo is asking for another term and that is why I’m also asking for another term to bring more development to Atwima Nwabiagya North. The work has not been completed, we need to do more for our people” A banker, Philip Ofori Asante who is aspiring to unseat the incumbent MP for Fomena, Andrews Asiamah, submitted his forms to the constituency office accompanied by a teeming youth. Mr Asante explained his motivation to represent the people of Fomena in parliament. “I believe that I possess what it takes to bring unity in the constituency. There is too much division in the constituency. I have so much to deliver, so much to change in the constituency and I’m ready to do that”. Some delegates in the Fomena constituency declared their support for the aspirant. “Mr Asante has proved his worth by spending his personal resources to attend to the needs of our various communities way before he decided to contest for Member of Parliament. From rebuilding of collapsed school blocks to empowering the youth through job creation and enhancing education by organizing free vacation classes to the double track SHS students. We believe he is the messiah we have been waiting for to develop Fomena constituency,” a supporter stated. The resolve in the Ashanti region is to elect winnable candidates to maintain seats and recapture those lost to the opposition NDC in the 2016 elections. The NPP primaries is slated for April 25.
