The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has temporarily suspended its parliamentary primaries in the Nhyiaeso Constituency.

The decision was announced by the National Executive Committee of the party after a meeting held on Wednesday, January 17.

The decision comes after an interlocutory injunction was filed by one of the polling station executives from Kwadaso, an electoral area in the Nhyiaeso constituency.

The applicant, Nana Osei Owusu Bempah is praying the court to prevent siting MP Kennedy Kankam from contesting the seat while serving as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Asokore Mampong.

“A declaration that upon a true and proper interpretation of Rules 15 and 16 of the rules and regulations governing the conduct of parliamentary primaries in the constituencies with sitting MPs, Kennedy Kankam (second defendant), by virtue of his current position as the municipal chief executive (MCE) of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Area was not eligible to pick nomination forms to contest in the NPP’s (first defendant’s) parliamentary primaries in the Nhyiaeso constituency”.

The National Executive Committee has also disqualified an aspirant in the Bimbilla constituency paving way for Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, to go unopposed.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Samuel Abu Jinapor, Ambrose Dery, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, John Peter Amewu, Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. John Kumah will all contest unopposed in the upcoming primaries scheduled for January 27.
