Former Minister of Tourism and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zita Sabah Benson has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being behind all the moves by her party’s flagbearer aspriant Dr Kwabena Duffuor.

Dr Duffuor, a former Minister of Finance, is contending the Presidential Primaries of the NDC, originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 13.

He has, however, secured an injunction against the exercise after complaining about anomalies with the album.

The former Central Bank Governor petitioned the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), which has since suspended its preparations to supervise the elections after being served with the injunction suit.

Speaking on TV3‘s New Day on Thursday, May 11, Zita Benson said from all assumptions, the NPP are behind every move by Dr Duffuor, her fellow appointee in the Atta Mills-led government.

The 2008 NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency said even before Dr Duffuor announced his bid to contest John Dramani Mahama, a key member of the NPP had given hints on Twitter already.

She added that even before the recent development of injunction application will rear its head, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen, had talked about it.

“I think NPP is behind it, pushing it,” the former Ambassador to the Czech Republic alleged.

She, however, hinted of not being entirely sure about this.

“I am just assuming but I am not sure.”

She accused Dr Duffuor of having ill-motives with the ultimate agenda of disrupting the NDC calendar.

“If Dr Duffuor had good intentions for the party, what he would have done was come sit with elders of the party and resolve this instead of waiting three days to the elections.”
